Abstract

Promoting accessibility and inclusion: The use of tactile maps in geography classes based on a review of the literature is the motivating theme of this study, which aims to analyze how tactile maps can contribute to the teaching and learning of geography. The overall objective of this study is to investigate the contributions of tactile maps to the teaching of geography through the use of low- and high-tech resources. The specific objectives involve analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of the resources available for the production of tactile maps; identifying the limitations and potential of different technologies in the educational context; and investigating the techniques currently used in the production of tactile maps. This is a qualitative, exploratory study developed through a survey of online databases, specifically on the SciELO and Google Scholar platforms. After screening, 14 documents were selected to compose the research corpus with a time frame of five years (2016–2021). The data collected were organized into three main categories, according to the type of technological resource used: GROUP 1 – Low-Tech Resources; GROUP 2 – High- Tech Resources; GROUP 3 – Combined Low-Tech and High-Tech Resources. Based on the analysis of the documents, it was concluded that, regardless of the degree of technological complexity, tactile resources constitute a powerful pedagogical strategy, capable of mediating the construction of spatial concepts, favoring the development of cognitive skills, and promoting the appreciation of diversity in the school environmen
