O papel da mulher do médico na obra “Ensaio sobre a cegueira” de José Saramago: uma análise sobre a sua racionalidade diante da epidemia de Cegueira.

Abstract

The present research analysis on the rational profile of the female character of the physician in the work "Essay on the Blindness", by the great writer José Saramago, based on the attitude of this character in front of an epidemic of blindness that does not reach it. Using the main source, the work itself, trying to understand the reason why a single person throughout the narrative, even having contact with the infected and living amid the madness caused by the epidemic, remained lucid and immune the disease. It will be observed that, in the plot, blindness presents itself metaphorically, defined as "white darkness" capable of causing great destruction, so the intention of this metaphor can be understood as a way of juxtaposing the blindness to the natural condition of modern man, especially linked to the ethical character, this being the blindness that dehumanizes and leads the blind to live as "animals" in a subhuman place. Thus, the author narrates a world plagued by the chaos left by the epidemic of blindness, where only the doctor's wife will be able to cross, along with a group of blind people that helps and protects, serving as an escape valve for them. From this fact, we intend to demonstrate the rationality of the protagonist, through her attitudes towards all suffering in the struggle for survival, seeking to investigate the reason for her immunity and the said rationality.
