Uma comparação entre a abordagem sobre o preconceito racial no romance “O Mulato” e a visibilidade da problemática racista na contemporaneidade de Itapecuru Mirim - MA

Abstract

This study presents a critical analysis of the delineation of the author Aluísio de Azevedo, in the plot of the work "The Mulato", in which the black figure represented in the Maranhão society during the nineteenth century, compared to the way racial prejudice is seen and treated in the everyday life of the society of Itapecuru-Mirim. The focus of the research was based on the understanding of the correlation between the way the Negro was viewed socially in that period and the way in which the contemporary Negro is inserted in the society, being based on the differentiations of representativeness perceived between the two periods, as well as the influence on the social, economic and cultural transformations that occurred during the course of the centuries. On the basis of the research, it was possible to list the main factors involved in the relations established socially by the Negro, aiming at the search for the achievement of better levels of visibility, in an attempt to dissolve pre-established values and conceptions in society and that were rooted in the long of the centuries of differentiation of individuals by the color of the skin, with respect to the positions occupied by blacks and whites. It was tried to embark on the most varied scopes about the way in which the prejudice was approached by Aluísio de Azevedo in the plot, searching for the analogy between the dialogues established and the author's ideology embedded in the lines between the text, as well as its relation with the attributed reality to the black figure of the contemporaneity of the city of Itapecuru- Mirim. The comparison between the racism portrayed in the work and the changes that occurred in the relations established between individuals today, which gained new configurations over the centuries, was essential for the theory to be understood in a practical way, aiming at the understanding of the existence of a relation of social evolution between the black of the nineteenth century and the Afrodescendent figure of the present day.
