As representações da sociedade Senegalesa pós-colonial na filmografia de Ousmane Sembéne: uma análisedo filme Xala (1974)

Abstract

The trajectory of African cinema began in the 1960s, a period from which the Most colonized countries achieved independence. With the recognition of the work of the Senegalese filmmaker Ousmane Sembène, people began to talk about an African Cinema, whose aim would be to deconstruct the mistaken and pejorative representations established about Africa and its populations in current cinematography and in the media in general. Xala, which in Wolof – the local language of Senegal – means curse, was Sembène's sixth film, produced in 1974. The feature film is marked by a profound criticism of the newly independent Senegalese society. Therefore, the present work aims to discuss the representations of post-colonial Senegalese society in the film Xala.
