Quem vê cara não vê coração: um estudo da gentrificação da Lagoa da Jansen em São Luís do Maranhão

Abstract

This work is an invitation to the reader to know the formation of Lagoa da Jansen in São Luís do Maranhão and to reflect on the constructed narratives, the urban and environmental transformations and the theoretical questions that involved this urban space in the 20th century, such as gentrification and transformation. of the landscape based on authors such as Cullen (1983), Harvey (2005), Santos (2006), Sá Carneiro (2000) and Villaça (2001). The research methodology sought to analyze the path of transformation of Lagoa da Jansen, the historical construction of the space and the approach to its formation, and for that, it went through the bibliographic review with emphasis on the analysis of primary sources such as reports and newspaper articles, as instruments gives a socio-spatial analysis of the study area in order to recognize and contextualize the gentrification existing in the construction of this space. From this perspective, the research found that gentrification in the study area caused the expulsion of many residents due to the appreciation of space mainly for commercial, tourist and real estate purposes. the research also reflected on Lagoa da Jansen in contemporary times and the reflection of these changes in the urban landscape, with the idea of rescuing the importance of the historical process of construction and appropriation of space in Lagoa da Jansen, from its emergence to the present day, and highlight the visual transformation of this landscape over the years.
