Analisando a monarquia absolutista comparando com a narrativa cinematográfica: o rei leão como ferramenta didática

Abstract

This study explores the characteristics of European absolutism in the 16th and 17th centuries through a comparative analysis with the film "The Lion King," aiming to identify parallels between the representation of power in the animation and the central elements of historical absolutism. The objective is to examine how the Disney animation mirrors concepts such as the centralization of power in the hands of a single leader, the notion of the divine right of kings – where the ruler's authority is seen as emanating from a higher source – and the hierarchical social dynamics that structured the societies of that era. The analysis aims to offer a new perspective on the period of absolutism, using a work of popular entertainment to illustrate and make more accessible the complex political and social concepts that characterized it. By comparing the power structure in the savannah portrayed in "The Lion King" with the absolutist monarchies of Europe, the intention is to highlight the similarities in the ways power was exercised, in the legitimization of authority, and in the maintenance of social order, providing a deeper and more engaging understanding of this important historical period.
