Abstract

Educational actions of preventive nature aim to promote awareness, building a culture of safety and training of the school community, with knowledge about prevention and fire fighting. In view of this, the question was raised: how can educational actions on fire safety help the school community studied, making it safer and able to face a fire situation inside it? Thus, this research aims to propose and execute educational actions for the school IEMA Bacelar Portela, in order to develop the culture of fire safety in the environment through basic notions of prevention and extinction of initial outbreaks of fire. For this, it was necessary to discuss fire safety in the school environment, check the safety culture, risk perception and knowledge about prevention of the occupants, as well as develop an educational booklet and two instructions about fire extinguisher and LPG referring to the broader basic training proposed to the school. The methodology adopted in the work consists of action research, applied nature, with a descriptive and exploratory character, under the hypothetical-deductive method. With this, it is made a consultation in norms and laws related to fire, as well as a bibliographical research of subjects related to the prevention and combat of fire. In the field, for data collection, a semi-structured interview and two questionnaires were applied, the first with teachers and employees, and the second with students from the three high school years. From the analysis of the data collected, it was found that most users do not know how to handle the fire extinguisher, think the kitchen is the most dangerous place in the school, have never participated in educational activities on the subject and consider such actions very important. Thus, the initial hypothesis that there is a need for preventive actions at school, and that these promote and disseminate positive attitudes and responses in the event of an emergency, is valid
