Harry Potter e o Bildungsroman: um herói em formação

Abstract

The Harry Potter literary saga, written by british Joanne Kathleen Rowling, tells the story of an eleven-year-old orphan boy who discovers he is a wizard, and goes on to study at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The saga, which has seven books, follows the boy for seven years and shows us his physical, psychological and social development during this time. For this reason, it seeks to relate the english saga with the concept of Bildungsroman of Literary Theory, the formative novel, a subgenre of the novel that portrays the growth of a character in all areas of his life over time, until reaching maturity. Thus, this work is characterized as a qualitative bibliographic, exploratory and descriptive research, and aims in a general way to relate the concept of the bildungsroman to the Harry Potter saga and, specifically, to analyze the concept of formative novel, observe the construction of Harry's character and explain how the wizarding world and the social and personal situations involving the boy built him as a hero. To this end, anchoring was sought in the theoretical approaches of Bakhtin (2011), Lukács (2009), Maas (2000), Moretti (2020), among others, in addition to the literary texts of J. K. Rowling. With this, it was possible to conclude that the narrative of Harry Potter represents a bildungsroman, in addition to presenting a deep reflection on the construction of identity and personal growth.
