Abstact: Prison architecture plays an important role in territorialization in the prison environment, involving the dispute and negotiation of power, the creation of collective identity and the manifestation of dominance relationships. The organization of prisons can directly influence territorialization, encouraging or discouraging the formation of territorial groups. The territorialization of prison space has implications for criminal sociology, which studies the relationship between crime and social factors in a society, and prison geography – an emerging and vibrant field of geography research, which provides perspectives for
understanding the social and spatial processes involved in the prison environment. Prisoners try to establish strategies to create their own dynamics inside and outside penitentiary institutions through territorialization. The study in question sought to analyze how the architecture of prisons influences the process of territorialization in the penitentiary complex of São Luís - MA, within a micro and macro criminal sociology perspective. This was an autoethnographic research with a qualitative focus, using investigative techniques such as semi-structured interviews, questionnaires, participant observation, document and bibliographic analysis. Ten professionals from the Criminal Justice System participated
directly in the research, providing answers and participating in the hearing of the questionnaires, in addition to five inmates who were impacted in some way by the State during the subversive movements in the period from 2013 to 2014. These practices resulted in a hierarchy informal among inmates, where some exercised control over others, often violently. The power dynamics in the prison space highlighted the fragility of the penitentiary system in guaranteeing the safety and integrity of inmates, in addition to revealing the inability of the State to fulfill its role of social reintegration of prisoners, reinforced by the
prison architecture that did not fulfill the desired purpose.

Abstact: Given its favorable natural characteristics and governmental incentives, Piauí has become a major
attractive center for investments related to solar energy production. Celeo Redes Brasil, which has a
working solar park in São João do Piauí, is working on the construction of a new one, with an investment
of approximately 1.5 billion Brazilian reais. Ibitu Energia opened the Caldeirão Grande 2 energy
complex in the municipality of Caldeirão Grande in April 2023, with an installed production capacity
of 252 MW and an estimated investment of 816 million Brazilian reais. All these investments have been
bringing visibility to the State of Piauí, however, it is necessary to discuss how the installation and
development of these projects are being carried out, and whether governmental inspections are taking
place, especially regarding the limits of fauna and flora, as well as the quality of life of the local
community, as these are the people who live directly with the changes caused by the arrival of these
ventures. In the implementation and operation of a solar park, the landscape can be compromised, with
considerable loss of vegetation cover, generating considerable impacts on local ecosystems, modifying
the fauna and flora development cycles. Another problem that can be observed is related to the physical
and social structure of the cities that receive these investments, usually small towns, which face a series
of socioeconomic problems. This research addresses the landscape category through a case study of
solar energy production in the municipality of Ribeira do Piauí, specifically in the Salinas community.
This municipality was chosen because it is home to one of the largest solar parks in South America,
Nova Olinda Solar Park. To understand the dynamics of the landscape that involves this whole process,
this study works with the following general objective: To analyze the socio-environmental impacts
caused by the production of solar energy in the municipality of Ribeira do Piauí, specifically in the
Salinas community. Specific objectives are: highlight the activities developed by the Nova Olinda Solar
Park, identify the socio-environmental impacts caused by the production of photovoltaic solar energy at
the Nova Olinda Solar Park, and evaluate the local community's perception about the production of solar
energy at the Nova Olinda Solar Park in that municipality. The geosystemic method was used to
contemplate the objectives of this study, its methodological path involves the use of geoprocessing to
process data related to the study, as well as questionnaires and interviews applied to a portion of the
residents of the Salinas Community and other social groups that have a relationship or affinity with the
proposed theme. In addition to this, the results published by the environmental impact report about the
Nova Olinda Solar Park, where these data were discussed and compared with the perception of local
residents, were also analyzed. It is known that the production of solar energy provides a series of positive
impacts, contributing to the expansion of the national energy matrix and the environment, however, this
work points to the existence of socio-environmental impacts influenced by the arrival of the enterprise
in question, which makes it necessary to debate this topic.

Abstact: This study investigates the interplay between thermal comfort and air quality in commercial
areas of São Luís, Paço do Lumiar, and São José de Ribamar (MA), focusing on the
neighborhoods of João Paulo, Cohab, Cidade Operária, and Estrada de Ribamar. Data were
collected through mobile transects and fixed sensors, including thermo-hygrometers for
temperature and relative humidity measurements, PM2.5 monitoring, and structured
questionnaires administered to area users during the dry (2024) and rainy (2025) seasons.
Spatial analysis using IDW interpolation in QGIS revealed persistent urban heat islands
regardless of season, along with minor thermal fluctuations between weekdays and weekends,
highlighting the influence of urban land use on local microclimates. Thermal comfort indices,
namely the Heat Index (HI) and Effective Temperature (TE), indicated recurrent health risks,
with “Danger” and “Extreme Danger” levels predominating in João Paulo and Cohab, while
Cidade Operária and Maiobão exhibited comparatively lower values. Users’ subjective thermal
perception aligned with these metrics, reporting discomfort and symptoms such as headaches,
fatigue, and dizziness. PM2.5 concentrations exhibited clear seasonal variability, peaking above
20 μg/m3 during the dry season and decreasing in the rainy season. Statistical analyses revealed
a negative correlation with relative humidity and weak associations with precipitation, wind,
and temperature. The Distributed Lag Nonlinear Model (DLNM) showed that PM2.5 exerted a
significant effect only at elevated exposure levels (>20 μg/m3), with a lag of approximately 10
days, corresponding to an estimated 150% increase in the relative risk of respiratory
hospitalizations. Stepwise multiple regression identified relative humidity (p = 0.000337) and
wind speed (p = 0.00177) as the most explanatory factors, although the low R2 highlights the
multifactorial nature of hospitalizations. These findings underscore the critical influence of
urban climate and air quality on public health and emphasize the need for integrated urban
planning strategies, including thermal comfort mitigation, expansion of green infrastructure,
redesign of urban furniture, and regulation of vehicular emissions, to foster healthier, more
resilient, and socially equitable commercial environments.
