Abstact: INTRODUCTION: Sleep is a vital process for the survival and development of human beings. However, some professions, such as teaching, present aspects that can directly influence sleep quality. Conversely, physical activity has proven effective in improving sleep quality.OBJECTIVE: To assess the sleep quality, cardiorespiratory capacity, and hand grip strength of public high school teachers. METHODOLOGY: This is an exploratory study with a quantitative approach and an experimental design. The sample consisted of high school teachers from the state and federal school systems in the city of São João dos Patos, Maranhão. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to assess sleep quality, and the McArdle bench test and the handgrip strength test were performed to evaluate cardiorespiratory capacity. Data were described using relative frequencies, percentages, and measures of central tendency. Spearman's correlation test and Fisher's exact test were used to verify associations between categorical variables. An alpha of 5% was adopted, and all analyses were performed using the statistical package (Jamovi 2.3.28). RESULTS: The study included 40 teachers of both sexes, 17 (43%) male and 23 (57%) female. Regarding the sleep quality index, 15 (88%) of the male participants and 13 (56%) of the female participants presented a poor sleep quality rating. There was no statistical significance in the association between the sexes of the participants' sleep quality index (p=0.09). Regarding handgrip strength, it was found that the majority of male and female participants were classified as having normal handgrip strength, 10 (59%) and 18 (78%), respectively. There was no statistical significance in the classification of handgrip strength between the sexes of the teachers (p=0.210). Regarding cardiorespiratory capacity, above-average and excellent classifications predominated in both sexes, corresponding to 6 (26%) and 6 (26%) in females, and 3 (18%) and 5 (29%) in males, respectively. There was no statistical significance when comparing the sexes in the classification of the participants' cardiorespiratory capacity (p=0.687). CONCLUSION: It was observed that most teachers presented poor sleep quality, although most had adequate levels of handgrip strength and cardiorespiratory capacity, highlighting the importance of implementing strategies aimed at promoting sleep quality among teachers

Abstact: This study aimed to characterize and compare physical activity levels, dietary habits, and physical fitness indicators between the sexes among public high school teachers in the municipality of São João dos Patos, Maranhão. It was a descriptive field study with a quantitative approach, conducted with a non-probability sample of 40 teachers: 57% female (n=23) and 43% male (n=17). The instruments used included a sociodemographic questionnaire, the short version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), a 24-hour dietary recall, the McArdle Step Test, and dynamometry. Data were subjected to descriptive and inferential statistical analysis, with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results revealed an exhausting work routine, reflected in inadequate water intake and irregular dietary habits for both sexes. No significant differences were found between men and women regarding nutritional parameters, muscle strength, or cardiorespiratory fitness, indicating that severe occupational strain affects the vitality of both groups equally. However, the study revealed a statistically significant disparity (p=0.04) in daily physical activity levels, evidenced by a high prevalence of men in the categories involving greater movement (59% active and 29% very active), in contrast to high rates of inactivity among women (39% insufficiently active and 13% sedentary). This scenario is linked to the heavy workload faced by women, as the majority manage a "triple shift" of responsibilities; this factor also underlies the higher prevalence of clinical conditions and greater use of continuous medication reported by this group (only 41% of female teachers reported not using medication, compared to 70% of men). It is concluded that the heavy workload and lack of free time substantially harm the health, diet, and physical fitness of this professional group. Practical measures within the school environment—such as structured breaks and workplace exercises—are necessary to reduce sedentary behavior and mitigate the profound impacts of the extensive workday

Título: Psicomotricidade e desenvolvimento motor: um projeto de intervenção com crianças de ensino multisseriado da zona rural de São João dos Patos-MA
Abstact: Psychomotricity is an approach that integrates motor, cognitive, and affective aspects, playing a significant role in child development and the teaching-learning process. In rural school settings, particularly in multigrade classrooms, structural and pedagogical limitations may restrict opportunities for motor experiences, highlighting the need for strategies that promote children's holistic development. In this context, the present study aimed to develop and implement a psychomotor intervention program with students from multigrade classes in rural schools in São João dos Patos, Maranhão, Brazil, seeking to promote motor development, autonomy, social interaction, and cognitive-related skills through playful and body movement activities. This was a quasi-experimental intervention study with a pre- and post-intervention design, conducted with students from two public rural schools. Motor coordination was assessed using the Körperkoordinationstest für Kinder (KTK), administered before and after six psychomotor intervention sessions. The intervention included motor circuits, obstacle races, adapted hopscotch activities, jumping tasks, lateral displacement exercises, and activities focused on balance and motor coordination. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Chi-square test, and Pearson's and Spearman's correlation coefficients, adopting a significance level of 5%. The results showed a predominance of insufficient motor coordination among the participants, with no significant association between sex and motor coordination classification. An increase in the mean Motor Quotient scores was observed after the intervention, indicating a trend toward improved motor performance; however, the statistical analyses performed did not allow confirmation of statistically significant differences between the pre- and post-intervention assessments. No significant association was found between age and motor performance. It is concluded that the psychomotor activities implemented represent a promising pedagogical strategy for expanding opportunities for motor experiences among students in rural multigrade classrooms and may contribute to the development of motor skills. Nevertheless, studies with more rigorous experimental designs are needed to confirm these findings

Abstact: Recreational activities play a fundamental role in child development, contributing to the construction of motor, cognitive, social, and emotional skills. This study aimed to understand the importance of recreational activities in the developmental process of children enrolled in Early Childhood Education in public schools in the municipality of São João dos Patos, Maranhão, Brazil. This field research adopted a quantitative, descriptive, and exploratory approach and involved 62 teachers working in public Early Childhood Education institutions. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings revealed that recreational activities are widely incorporated into the school routine, being carried out daily or frequently throughout the week by most teachers. Free play, guided games, dance activities, and motor circuits were identified as the most commonly used practices. Participants recognized that these activities contribute to motor development, social interaction, cognitive learning, and emotional expression among children. Despite the benefits observed, challenges related to school infrastructure, availability of adequate spaces, and professional training were identified. It is concluded that recreational activities represent important pedagogical strategies for promoting comprehensive child development, highlighting the need for investments in teacher training and improvements in educational infrastructure
