Título: Descarte de resíduos agropecuários no município de Bacurituba-Maranhão
Abstact: Agriculture and livestock farming are among the main economic activities in Brazil. In
recent years, the sector has recorded its highest growth, contributing to the expansion of
the national economy. However, when not managed properly, the growth of this activity
has caused significant environmental impacts, such as soil degradation, deforestation, and
the contamination of water resources. Considering this problem, this research aimed to
analyse and identify the treatment and final disposal of waste from agricultural activities
in the municipality of Bacurituba-MA. The study is classified as descriptive research, as
its objective is to report how agricultural waste management is carried out in the
municipality. Data analysis showed that beef cattle ranching is the main activity
developed in the region and that some producers still use incineration as a waste treatment
method. Many recognize the environmental issues, acknowledging that burning and
inadequate waste disposal can degrade the soil and contaminate water resources.
Therefore, the lack of municipal infrastructure for final waste disposal results in practices
of high environmental risk. Currently, burning is the main form of treatment and the open
dump is the most common final destination, highlighting a cycle of pollution and
degradation that compromises the quality of soil and water resources in the region

Título: Avaliação da biodegradabilidade de bioplásticos à base de pectina e amido do mesocarpo do coco babaçu
Abstact: The increased production and inadequate disposal of conventional plastics have
intensified the search for biodegradable materials obtained from renewable sources.
This study evaluated the biodegradability of biofilms produced with pectin and starch
extracted from the mesocarp of babassu coconut, analyzing the influence of
formulation composition on thickness, initial mass, final mass, and mass loss in soil.
The formulations were prepared with starch, pectin, glycerol, and calcium chloride,
according to a Central Composite Rotatable Design, totaling 11 experimental trials.
The biofilms were produced by plate molding, dried in an oven at 40 °C for 18 to 20
hours, and stored in an environment with controlled relative humidity. Biodegradability
was evaluated by the soil burial method for 10 days, in triplicate, with daily monitoring
of mass loss. The films showed good visual formation, continuous structure, flexibility,
absence of cracks, and coloration ranging from translucent white to yellowish beige.
All trials showed mass reduction, with biodegradability ranging from 47.5% to 68.1%.
Trial 1, composed of 1.16 g of starch and 1.16 g of pectin, showed the highest
biodegradation, indicating that thinner films with lower mass tend to degrade more
rapidly. Trial 6, with 8 g of starch and 4 g of pectin, showed the lowest biodegradability,
suggesting greater resistance of the matrix due to its high starch content. It is
concluded that thickness and the proportion between starch and pectin directly
influenced the degradation behavior of the biofilms in soil

present study aimed to map and characterize the land use and cover of the Fazenda Escola at the State
University of Maranhão (UEMA), São Bento Campus, located in the Baixada Maranhense Environmental
Protection Area. The research is characterized as descriptive, with a qualitative approach and exploratory
nature, based on a bibliographic survey, field data collection, and the application of geoprocessing tools.
The information was obtained with the aid of a GPS receiver and the OsmAnd application, and subsequently
processed in QGIS software for the preparation of thematic maps. The classification of the areas was based
on Collection 10 of the MapBiomas2024 Project. Seven classes were identified, with a predominance of
Forest Formation, followed by Flooded Field and Swampy Area, Other Non-Vegetated Areas, Other
Temporary Crops, Oil Palm, Other Perennial Crops, and Urbanized Area. The results demonstrate that the
Fazenda Escola reconciles academic activities and agricultural production with native vegetation areas,
highlighting the potential of geotechnologies to support conservation.

Título: Ocupações irregulares em áreas de proteção ambiental: impactos socioambientais nos campos alagados de São Bento - Maranhão
Abstact: The present study aims to analyze the socio-environmental impacts resulting from irregular
settlements in the flooded fields of the municipality of São Bento, Maranhão, located within
the Baixada Maranhense Environmental Protection Area, a site recognized under the Ramsar
Convention, seeking to understand how human presence and the disorderly use of land have
compromised environmental integrity and local quality of life; methodologically, a qualitative
approach with descriptive and exploratory characteristics was adopted, supported by a literature
review, field visits, photographic records, and the administration of questionnaires to residents
of the wetland areas, with data collection conducted in the neighborhoods of Alegre, Outra
Banda, and Porto Grande, followed by georeferencing of the sampled points; the results
indicated that a portion of respondents reported low income, limited schooling, and a lack of
land tenure documentation, factors that reflect socioeconomic vulnerability and contribute to
the expansion of settlements in environmentally sensitive areas, as well as the identification of
significant environmental impacts, including waste accumulation, water pollution, biodiversity
loss, and the proliferation of disease vectors, all exacerbated by insufficient sanitation services
and urban infrastructure; it is concluded that the irregular occupation of the flooded fields of
São Bento is a complex phenomenon that intertwines environmental degradation, social
exclusion, and the absence of urban planning, and that addressing this issue requires integrated
public policies that reconcile responsible land regularization, strengthened participatory
management, and the conservation of local ecosystems, ensuring a form of sustainable
development compatible with the socio-environmental realities of the Baixada Maranhense
