Título: Condições de criação do suíno baixadeiro, animal localmente adaptado à microrregião da Baixada Maranhense
Abstact: The Baixada Maranhense is a micro-region with unique geographical and biological
characteristics, standing out in the state of Maranhão for its seasonally flooded fields, and for
the presence of animals adapted to this environment. The pig known as “lowland”, is
endowed with great rusticity and adaptability to the conditions in which it is disposed, making
it an animal of easy handling, thus enabling its creation in an ultra-extensive way. In Baixada,
the creation of pigs is very present, serving as a source of income for many families, in
addition to serving, in some cases, only food for the breeders themselves and their families. In
view of this, the present study aimed to carry out a socioeconomic survey of swine farming in
two municipalities in the Baixada, São Bento and Bequimão, in order to observe more deeply
how the creation of this animal resource is carried out, taking into account factors such as
sanitary management and feed these animals, for example. During the development of the
research, visits were made to pig breeding retreats in the aforementioned municipalities, in
order to observe the reality surrounding the pig breeding activity. During the visits, a semiopen
questionnaire was applied, with the intention of evaluating how the swine activity is
carried out in the municipalities. There was a predominance of traditional, low-tech pig
farming, basically endowed with the application of common sense knowledge on how to carry
out animal husbandry. Therefore, the pig farming in the municipalities of São Bento and
Bequimão have several characteristics in common, each with its own particularities, but
which configure an extractive activity that is, for the most part, subsistence

Título: Metodologias alternativas no ensino de técnicas cirúrgicas durante a pandemia do Covid-19
Abstact: The COVID-19 pandemic reshaped teaching-learning conditions, requiring students and
education professionals to make various adjustments. The development of methodologies
capable of replacing the traditional model of teaching surgical technique has become essential
so that the training of academics is not outdated and incomplete in a pandemic moment. The
work aimed to propose active teaching-learning methodologies in emergency remote teaching,
in the discipline of Surgical Techniques, of the Veterinary Medicine course at the State
University of Maranhão, evaluating their impact on the training of students. To evaluate the
methodology used, a quantitative survey was carried out, virtually, through the Google Forms
application, between april and july 2021. The results showed that the methodology applied in
this study was fully accepted by 69.2% and partially by 23.1% of the students, indicating a
good adaptation. Among the resources used in the discipline, the ones with the highest
percentage of appreciation were: the forwarding of videos with didactic demonstration of the
techniques presented (76.9%) and monitoring by the teacher via WhatsApp (96.2%); real-time
monitoring of patients (84.6%); training in maneuvers and techniques on cadavers (72.7%).
From the practices in the veterinary hospital, 50% of the students indicated they had greater
confidence in performing the techniques presented and, after training on cadavers, 63.6% of
the participants felt more skillful and confident in relation to the maneuvers presented. We
conclude that the emergency adaptation of the Surgical Techniques discipline allows students
to have adequate contact with the programmed contents, without loss in the execution of the
pedagogical project. It is possible to adapt the theoretical classes, in a virtual environment,
evaluations and practical classes with reduced occupancy and respecting the regulations
incited by the pandemic of COVID-19, so that learning would not be compromised with the
sudden change in the implemented methodology.

Abstact: Water is a common good of extensive value to all humanity. It is important for all ecosystems
and living beings and widely used in all food processing and industry, having required its
potability to do so in order to avoid harm to public health, such as Foodborne Diseases
(DTA's). In view of the need to use potable water in the food industries, it would not be
different in slaughterhouses. Thus, in this work, we sought to evaluate the quali-quantitative
pattern of water for multiple uses in slaughterhouses in the city of São Luís, in the state of
Maranhão. The methodology consisted of preparing and applying a questionnaire in order to
obtain information about the slaughterhouse, such as slaughtered species, slaughter volume
(day/month), source of water used in the use and consumption of the slaughterhouse,
realization and use of products for treatment of water and effluents, then mapping the
collection points with the aid of the georeferencing tool QGis Version 3.20.0 in parallel with
Google Earth Pro. After this, water samples were collected and sent to microbiological
analysis (total coliforms and Escherichia coli) and physicochemical (bicarbonate alkalinity,
carbonate alkalinity, hydroxyl alkalinity, total alkalinity, calcium, chlorides, free chlorine,
apparent color, conductivity, total hardness, magnesium, hydrogen ionic potential - pH, total
dissolved solids, temperature, turbidity) in an outsourced laboratory. Having the results in
hand, they were evaluated as to whether or not they met the standards established by
Consolidation Ordinances GM/MS No. 5, of September 28, 2017 and GM/MS No. 888, of
May 4, 2021 (which amends the Annex XX of Consolidation Ordinance GM/MS No. 5, of
September 28, 2017), both from the Ministry of Health, which legislate on the control and
surveillance procedures for the quality of water for human consumption and its potability

Título: Impactos estruturais e socioeconômicos da criação de animais na agricultura familiar de Presidente Juscelino - MA
Abstact: Animal husbandry in family farming in Maranhão is a secondary activity in the agroecosystem. With this, it was aimed to perform the characterization of animal husbandry in
family farming in Presidente Juscelino, Maranhão, in order to understand what impacts this
activity causes on income and food security of rural families. The study was conducted in 11
production units in the municipality of Presidente Juscelino, Maranhão state, distributed in 9
communities. The study considered information about production characteristics (feed,
reproductive and sanitary management), number of animals, breeding system,
commercialization mode, and income obtained from the production of cattle, goats, horses,
pigs, sheep, and chickens, as well as socioeconomic aspects of the producers through
unstructured and semi-structured interviews and participant observation. 81.8% (9/11) of the
producers have only completed elementary school. They include the raising of chickens,
cattle, goats, pigs and horses. The breeding systems are semi-intensive. The sanitary measures
employed are vaccination and vermifugation. Only natural mating was seen, and the animals
feed on feed, pasture and alternative foods. The destination of the production is for selfconsumption or local marketing; the income generated by 72.7% of the farmers is up to two
minimum wages. 90.9% have INSS benefits. It is concluded that family farming in Presidente
Juscelino, Maranhão, is essentially a subsistence activity. Animal husbandry allows access to
safe food and a more complete diet for those who produce them.
