Inserção das mulheres no curso de licenciatura em química e os motivos de escolha para essa profissão

Abstract

The present study aimed to find out the percentage of insertion of women in the degree course in chemistry at the Center for Higher Studies in Caxias and the reasons for choosing this profession. The education of women began, back in the colonial period with the arrival of the Jesuits in Brazil, who brought a method of education focused on the principles of the family and the church. During this period, women had access to only the basics of reading, writing, painting, embroidering and sewing. For she had to take care of the children and the house and the husband and the back of the family. Women's struggle for equal rights is long and, each day, a new chapter is written. For data collection, students were visited in the classroom where questionnaires were delivered to women in the chemistry degree course at the Center for Higher Studies in Caxias enrolled in classes from 2017 to 2019. From the results obtained through this research, it is possible to state that the insertion of women in the degree course in chemistry is still small because the largest number of women entered in the chemistry course was in 2018 representing 50%. And the lowest percentage was in 2019 with 12.5%. And the reasons for choice that these women mentioned in the research when choosing the degree course in chemistry were identification with the course, greater possibility of employment and obtaining a higher education diploma. It is concluded that the insertion of women in education occurred through arduous struggles to reach where they are today and that the work allowed to know the percentage of insertion of women in the chemistry course and the reasons for choosing to teach.
