Mulheres negras na pós abolição: uma análise hemerográfica

Abstract

This work pertains to the social situation of black women in the early years following the abolition of slavery in Brazil. It originates from a scientific initiation research project on "social representations of enslaved women," which concluded aspects of the marginalization of black women's lives. Thus, this work was created with the aim of understanding the fate of black women in the post-abolition period. To understand the socially occupied place of black women, this work presents research conducted in official newspapers of the State of Maranhão and newspapers of the Black Press, where materials were selected to help understand the social situation of black women. In addition to the research in newspapers, specialized literature was used, with the research fundamentally based on black women, writers, and important figures for black feminism, such as Lélia Gonzalez, Bell Hooks, and Sueli Carneiro. Based on the research conducted, it was concluded that there is a reproduction of patterns of servitude positions for black women; even when free, they have historically remained shackled to the racist and sexist constructs that represent barriers in their lives.
