Fitotopônimos indígenas no município de Balsas: um olhar cultural e histórico

Abstract

Toponymy is a discipline that studies the proper names of places and, obeying an organized hierarchy of the areas of study, is linked to Onomástica, a science that studies the names of the various genres. Its object of study are the toponyms, names of places that express a meaning, so their use must start from interactions between users of the language to understand the different contexts of the appointments, because the toponym is also a linguistic sign. The present work is based on indigenous toponymy, a lexicon that expresses great richness of this language, either by the historicity of its linguistic trunks, by culture or by the way language speakers express the use of these terms in their daily lives, or by the fact that this lexicon is present in people's social language. The objective of this work is to analyze the indigenous lexical-toponymic inventory of the municipality of Balsas, especially phytotoponyms, and understand how they are present in the culture and history of the city. In its methodology, the work initially involved bibliographic and documentary research, followed by data collection, tabulation and analysis. From the studies, collected and the qualiquantitative analysis of the toponyms, it was possible to answer some of the questions and have some considerations about the object of study, that is, it was found that the indigenous taxonomies depend on the environment, the environment and the choice of denominators; it was also learned that the more natural the environment, the more indigenous terms are present; and the language of origin depends on that medium and the cultural baggage of the denominator. This perspective can redeem the marginality of the indigenous lexicon, as well as the dictionary, in the teaching of the Portuguese language and in its constituting process.
