Aspectos biogeográficos e ecológicos de palmeiras de babaçu

Título: Aspectos biogeográficos e ecológicos de palmeiras de babaçu
Abstact: The Cocais Forest, an emblematic vegetation formation in the Brazilian Mid-North,
constitutes a unique ecological mosaic in which palm trees represent structural elements
of the landscape, extending across several states and harbouring remarkable
sociobiological diversity. Despite its ecological and cultural relevance, its spatial
delimitation remains marked by conceptual and cartographic uncertainties, a
biogeographical challenge, as it directly affects how the landscape is understood, planned
and conserved. Among its most representative species are the palms of the Babassu
Complex (Attalea spp.), recognised for their wide distribution and ecological dominance,
as well as their social, economic and symbolic importance to the traditional communities
that depend on them. However, both the babassu palm forests and the Cocais Forest itself
are under increasing anthropogenic pressure due to land use conversion, habitat
fragmentation and the effects of climate change. Thus, understanding these systems
requires integrating spatial, ecological and social approaches capable of translating
uncertainties into instruments applicable to conservation. In this context, this study sought
to fill gaps in knowledge about the biogeographical uncertainties that permeate Cocais
Forest and the Babassu Complex. Initially, a systematic review of existing spatial
delimitations attributed to the Cocais Forest was carried out. Among the main results,
seven sources were discovered that presented significant divergences in terms of their
territorial extension and definition criteria. The delineation by Nascimento and Lima
(2016) covered the largest area, and the overlap of the different maps allowed us to
identify a zone of consensus, which was named the ‘core region,’ comprising 14
municipalities in the State of Maranhão. This cartographic synthesis resulted in a potential
area of occurrence covering 392 municipalities distributed across five Brazilian states.
Next, we employed Species Distribution Modelling (SDMs) for seven species of the
Babassu Complex and for the group overall, using the Maximum Entropy (MaxEnt),
Random Forest (RF), Boosted Regression Trees (BRT) and Generalised Linear Models
(GLM) algorithms. Occurrence data from GBIF were combined with bioclimatic
variables from CHELSA 2.1 under the current scenario (2011-2040) and future high emission scenarios (SSP3-7.0 and SSP5-8.5) for 2041–2070 and 2071–2100. The results
indicated that RF and BRT generated more conservative projections, while MaxEnt and
GLM presented broader distributions. Temperature seasonality was the main bioclimatic
predictor. Attalea maripa, A. phalerata, and A. speciosa exhibited broader ranges of
suitability, while A. funifera and A. vitrivir presented more restricted distributions. Future
scenarios projected an increase in high suitability, particularly in the Amazon and Cerrado
regions. Only A. funifera and A. vitrivir showed declines. By revealing how cartographic
and predictive uncertainties limit territorial planning and ecosystem conservation, this
study reinforces the importance of conservation biogeography as a strategic field for
understanding and intervening in complex socio-ecological landscapes, especially in
tropical regions subject to multiple environmental pressures.

Memória e literatura: memória ancestral e escravidão em Úrsula, de Maria Firmina dos reis

Título: Memória e literatura: memória ancestral e escravidão em Úrsula, de Maria Firmina dos reis
Abstact: The present research aims to explore the relation between ancestral memory as well as history, highlighting the black characters in the literary novel Úrsula (1859), written by Maria Firmina dos Reis. Consequently, we will discuss race and ethnical questions
and the conditions of slavery people into the literary work studied. Based on the theorical reference, we will focus on memory and ancestry, as well as the narrative construction through the black characters (Susana and Túlio). In this research composition, we intent to point aspects which evince questions like slavery and ancestry among others questions related with the colonialism and the patriarchy. In addition, the narrative shows in its plot many subjugations which the black characters
faced in the slavery during the 19th century. Therefore, the analyses proposed is based on bibliographical, quantitative and descriptive research which the main purpose is to analyze the literary work through the critical and social perspective of the characters chosen. For that matter, this research justifies itself for approaching the black
characters memories chosen, evincing how those elements are important in the memory construction related to the social and cultural aspects which from different ways are still current in our society. In order to base this discuss we studied the theorical contributions of: Andrade (2021); Andreta (2013); Duarte (2005); Agenor Gomes (2022); Halbwachs (2003); Reis (1859; 2018); Evaristo (2007-2022); Hall (1996) among others. For this purpose, the results aim that the literary work Úrsula holds a connection between the historical facts in the slavery time, but it expands its
historical dignity, embodying itself as a fiction. That way, the literary work brings a reflection in relation to the memory dialogues and the ancestry of the black characters,
as long as this ancestral memory struggles a dialogue with the construction of the afro-
brazilian and african identities.

O Mirante vê além do dia: cidade e memória em “Os Canhões do Silêncio” de José Chagas

Título: O Mirante vê além do dia: cidade e memória em “Os Canhões do Silêncio” de José Chagas
Abstact: Memory plays a fundamental role in literature, both as a theme and as a tool for
reframing the past. Based on this premise, this study aims to analyze the work “Os
Canhões do Silêncio,” by José Chagas, from a memorialistic perspective. To this
end, it is important to understand how the relationship between the poetic subject
and the landscape and spaces of the city occurs; how memories are formed from
historical places and what elements corroborate the construction of the memory of
the place. The work in question consists of two hundred pages, whose poetic images
dialogue with the history and memory of the city of São Luís do Maranhão. In Os
canhões do silence, the poet poses a disturbing question about being and time
through the use of the metonymy of the viewpoint and the Desterro neighborhood,
whose poetic self reflects on the historical trajectory of the place between splendor
and decadence, the self The poem metaphorizes the contradictions of greatness and
misery, of virtue and vice, of permanence and perishing that mark the chronological
history of human beings in the place. From this perspective, literary analysis is based
on the works of: Assmann (2011), Bachelard (2008), Halbwachs (1950), Le Goff
(1997), Santos (2018), Izquierdo (2018), among others. The work Os Canhões do
Silêncio revealed a complete and very well-developed literary universe that captures
attention and provokes varied feelings, while the beauties of São Luís are narrated,
there is the presence of sadness and melancholy in the lyrical self. while
remembering the city's past. Furthermore, it is noteworthy that the city represents not
only the physical home for the body of the lyrical self, but also the place that houses
its emotions and holds deep memories that transcend time and space.

Imagens da mulher afro-brasileira em Olhos D’água de Conceição Evaristo

Título: Imagens da mulher afro-brasileira em Olhos D’água de Conceição Evaristo
Abstact: This paper aims to analyze the construction of the image of the Afro-Brazilian woman in
two short stories from the book Water Eyes (2018) by the contemporary writer Conceição
Evaristo. The work has fifteen short stories, from which we chose two: Water Eyes and
Duzu-Querença. In them, we seek to investigate how the image of the woman-mother,
woman-daughter, and woman-grandmother are constructed and represented from the perspective
of ancestry and memory. In addition, Evaristo's writing is permeated by a diasporic
feeling that brings a space of speech into the narrative process, a discursive space that gives
voice to the black female characters by fictionalizing their daily experiences as a form of
action and resistance. The methodology used was bibliographic research of a qualitative and
phenomenological nature, as we delve into the writings as a phenomenon of the imaginary,
highlighting the constellations of images in the analyzed short stories. For theoretical basis,
the research was based on the notion of the anthropological trajectory of the imaginary by
Gilbert Durand (2019), in the epistemology of Gaston Bachelard based on the work The
Poetics of Space (2006), as well as the phenomenologist Merleau - Ponty (2018) in his work
The Phenomenology of Perception (2018), in addition to Mazama (2009), Evaristo (2020),
Ribeiro (2019), Gilroy (2001), Gonzalez (2020), among others. The results of the investigation
indicate that Evaristian writings, through the analyses undertaken in the two short stories
of the aforementioned work, transcend a discursive space since the daily actions and situations
of the black and subaltern woman are highlighted based on memory and ancestry,
bringing with them a field of symbolic images about the narrative actions of the female characters:
the images of the woman-mother, the woman-daughter, and the woman-grandmother.
In other words, life writing is a writing that brings feminine pluralities as a way of breaking
paradigms through the perspective of writing, living, and acting, deconstructing the legacy
of the Eurocentric patriarchal system and (re)affirming the (re)existence of the experiences
of Afro-Brazilian women.
