Requalificação da praça Firmino Neto, Bacabal-MA: proposta de revitalização com foco em acessibilidade urbana.

Título: Requalificação da praça Firmino Neto, Bacabal-MA: proposta de revitalização com foco em acessibilidade urbana.
Abstact: The Firmino Neto Square, located in the center of Bacabal-MA, presents serious accessibility deficiencies that limit its use by people with disabilities, older adults, and individuals with reduced mobility, compromising its social function. The general objective of this study is to propose a revitalization project for the square, with an emphasis on urban accessibility, ensuring a truly inclusive public space. The methodology consisted of an on-site technical assessment, comparing existing conditions with the guidelines of ABNT NBR 9050:2020, followed by the development of an intervention proposal. The main issues identified were: narrow sidewalks (less than 1.20 m), ramps with excessive slopes (up to 14.63%), absence of tactile flooring, inadequate handrails, and non-compliant guardrails. The proposed requalification includes widening the sidewalks, installing new ramps with more comfortable slopes, implementing a continuous tactile paving system, accessible restrooms, an inclusive playground, a sensory garden, and urban furniture aligned with Universal Design principles. It is concluded that the proposed intervention is technically feasible and capable of reclaiming the square for the community, transforming it into a landmark of inclusion and citizenship in Bacabal.

Avaliação do sistema de proteção contra incêndio do prédio da Universidade Estadual do Maranhão – Campus Bacabal

Título: Avaliação do sistema de proteção contra incêndio do prédio da Universidade Estadual do Maranhão – Campus Bacabal
Abstact: The research aimed to evaluate the conditions of the fire protection system of the building at the Maranhão State University, Bacabal campus, verifying its compliance with current technical standards and identifying potential risks to occupant safety. The study was developed through a case study, involving on-site inspection and comparison of the observed items with the criteria established by ABNT and the Military Fire Brigade of Maranhão.
The results showed that although some elements are partially adequate (such as part of the signage, fire extinguishers, and the hydrant system), the system presents significant deficiencies, especially the absence of a fire alarm system in the main campus building, incomplete signage, and lack of emergency lighting. Such nonconformities directly affect evacuation efficiency and response time during emergencies, representing a risk to the integrity of the academic community.
It is concluded that the building requires structural and administrative interventions, emphasizing the installation of detection and alarm systems, full adequacy of signage and fire extinguishers, and the implementation of continuous preventive maintenance. The study contributes to improving fire safety in the university environment and may serve as a basis for future evaluations and institutional actions aimed at risk prevention.

As manifestações patológicas no concreto armado: estudo bibliográfico das principais causas, mecanismos e fatores contribuintes

Título: As manifestações patológicas no concreto armado: estudo bibliográfico das principais causas, mecanismos e fatores contribuintes
Abstact: Currently, the concrete is the most widely used material and one of the primary components in construction, thanks to its strength under a wide variety of loads and environmental aggressions. However, it is susceptible to pathological manifestations that can impair and compromise its ability to resist applied forces, potentially leading to partial or even total structural collapse. Among the most frequent pathological manifestations are cracks, which affect not only the aesthetics of the structure but also accelerate degradation processes such as carbonation, water infiltration, and reinforcement corrosion, significantly reducing the designed service life of the element. A large number of Brazilian buildings exhibit such pathological manifestations. These issues can occur at various stages of the construction process, making it essential to study the most recurrent prior causes in order to prevent the same problems from recurring in the future. The present work aims to study the theoretical foundations of pathological manifestations in reinforced concrete structures, covering the design phase, the use of materials, and construction processes, with the goal of preventing failures and adopting correct repair techniques. This is intended to avoid future problems, waste, rework, and consequently extra costs in the budget.

Gerenciamento de obras na prática: uma abordagem prática sobre controle de prazos, custos e qualidade

Título: Gerenciamento de obras na prática: uma abordagem prática sobre controle de prazos, custos e qualidade
Abstact: This study aimed to analyze, in practice, how medium-sized construction projects are managed, with an emphasis on controlling deadlines, costs, and quality. The research was conducted on a residential construction site located in Santa Inês, Maranhão, Brazil, involving a civil engineer, a supervisor, and a foreman. The methodology adopted followed a qualitative approach, combining direct observation on the construction site and the application of online questionnaires, structured around five central axes: service operationalization, execution monitoring, productivity, cost control, and quality control. The results showed that the daily organization of tasks, with distribution based on workforce specialization, significantly contributes to productivity and the reduction of rework. Constant supervision, advance purchasing, and the planning of independent activities were identified as effective strategies to maintain the progress of the work. In cost control, it was found that the use of applications, management systems, and Business Intelligence tools strengthens financial monitoring and decision-making. However, project changes, high-end materials, and client financial limitations still represent the main factors of budgetary imbalance. Regarding quality, it was observed that weekly audits, alignment inspections, and specialized technical monitoring are essential to ensure compliance with standards and projects. It is concluded that efficient construction management depends on the integration of professionals, the use of appropriate tools, and constant monitoring, allowing for greater control of the variables that influence construction performance and the final delivery of the project.
