The study aims to deepen the analysis of the ultraromantic characteristics present in the work, contextualizing them with possible contemporary conflicts, such as psychological disorders and suicide, in today's society. The methodology used is bibliographic research, with critical analysis of fundamental academic sources, such as Alfredo Bosi (2000, 2015), Antonio Candido (2002), Carl Jung (1987) and Émile Durkheim (2014). During the research, the historical context and implications of the letters during the post-World War II period are surveyed. To solidify the research, the methodology adopted is bibliographic in nature, based on the theory of DA. The research steps include: reading the corpus, selecting four relevant letters, compiling and reviewing bibliographic references, etc. Finally, the discourses present in the four letters in the work and the power relations in force in the narrative were discussed, as well as the reconstruction of the identities of the individuals. Using Discourse Analysis (DA), a critical approach developed in the 1960s, the research investigates how humor goes beyond the formal structure of language to reveal its social and political functions. The study explores the interaction between laughter and mockery in the discursive strategies of Léo Lins and Mhel Marrer, examining how their controversial discourses provoke reflections on social norms and power relations (Morgado, 2008; Orlandi, 2015). The objective was to analyze humor as a discursive element in the jokes of these comedians, highlighting its characteristics and the manifestation of controversial discourse. The research focused on understanding the effects of controversial humorous language on the public and exploring the aspects of laughter and mockery. The discursive strategies employed were identified and discussed, highlighting their peculiarities. The methodology followed a structured sequence: selection and analysis of the corpus of controversial humorous discourses, survey of similar studies for contextualization, research of the theoretical framework to understand the discursive and social mechanisms of humor, description and analysis of the corpus to identify and discuss discursive strategies, and writing of the monograph to consolidate the findings. The results show that humor is a fertile field for discussing sensitive issues, with limits that vary according to the cultural and social context. This research will emphasize historical and cultural factors that led some authors to be considered important to be present in Brazilian literary historiography manuals and ended up leaving other authors from Maranhão out, in addition to providing a brief historical overview of Brazilian literature and showing the path that Maranhão literature took so that authors from this region could become part of national literature. Knowing and recognizing Maranhão authors is essential for cultural understanding, in addition to rethinking the importance that other literary genres have for the history of literature. Studying Maranhão literature based on authors already consecrated by the canon and others who were left out, but who are important for the construction of the character of national literature, is necessary for the recovery of the cultural history of Maranhão literature. This research has as its object of analysis the manuals Concise History of Brazilian Literature (2006), by Alfredo Bosi and Brazilian Literature: Origins and Unity (1999) volume 1, by José Aderaldo Castelo and as its theoretical basis Candido (2006), Castillo (2017), Abreu (2006), among others under the perspective of Maranhão literary historiography, seeking to delimit itself in the concentration of the identification of the reasons underlying the presence and absence of certain Maranhão authors in these manuals that are references of Brazilian literary historiography. As a specific objective, this research seeks to identify significant authors and works of Maranhão literature that were not addressed or were underrepresented in literary historiography manuals, in addition to analyzing the reasons that led to the omission of Maranhão authors in the selected literary historiography manuals. The results of this research show that historical, social and cultural factors can influence the choices of authors that appear in literary historiography manuals, showing that authors from regions such as the Southeast have more privileges compared to authors from regions considered peripheral, such as Maranhão. Authors such as Gonçalves Dias gain more recognition, while authors such as Artur Azevedo end up being excluded from literary historiography manuals. The reasons for these omissions include a regional perspective and the perpetuation of the Brazilian literary canon that is established by traditional criteria 2024-08-19T00:00:00Z
