Abstact: Broiler farming is one of the most important activities in Brazilian agribusiness, standing out for its high production, exports, and contribution to food security. With short cycles and high productive efficiency, it has become strategic for small and medium-scale producers. This study presents the development of spreadsheets in Excel to estimate production costs and perform economic-financial evaluation in broiler farming under a semi-intensive system. The tool was designed to include accounting and zootechnical variables such as fixed and variable costs, revenues, investments, and performance indicators. The spreadsheets allow producers to monitor daily feed consumption, mortality, and weight gain, as well as to project revenues and calculate indicators such as profitability, return on investment, and break-even point. The proposal aims to provide small and medium-scale poultry farmers with a practical and accessible solution to transform scattered data into reliable managerial information, fostering greater production efficiency and economic sustainability

Diagnóstico bioclimático para criação de ovinos no município de Amarante do Maranhão-MA

Título: Diagnóstico bioclimático para criação de ovinos no município de Amarante do Maranhão-MA
Abstact: Sheep farming in the Brazilian Northeast, especially with adapted breeds such as the Morada
Nova, is of great socioeconomic relevance; however, it faces limitations related to the hot and
humid climate characteristic of the region. This study aimed to create a bioclimatic diagnosis
of the municipality of Amarante do Maranhão (MA) for raising Morada Nova sheep by
analyzing annual meteorological data, including air temperature (TA), relative humidity (RH),
and thermal comfort indices such as the Temperature-Humidity Index (THI) and the Black
Globe Humidity Index (BGHI) to identify periods of thermal comfort and discomfort for the
animals. The results demonstrated that the first half of the year presents lower average TA and
high RH, while the second half concentrates the most critical conditions. This period shows a
gradual increase in TA, a sharp drop in RH, and a higher radiation load, especially between
September and November, when the THI and BGHI exceed comfort limits, indicating a
significant risk of thermal stress. These conditions directly affect feed intake, respiratory rate,
weight gain, reproductive efficiency, and animal welfare. It is concluded that the climate of
Amarante do Maranhão imposes relevant challenges on the production of Morada Nova sheep,
reinforcing the need for thermal management strategies, such as natural or artificial shading,
continuous water availability, adjustments to grazing schedules, and interventions that promote
a microclimate more suitable for the performance and sustainability of the activity

"Diagnóstico bioclimático para a criação de ovinos no município de Pedreiras-MA"

Título: "Diagnóstico bioclimático para a criação de ovinos no município de Pedreiras-MA"
Abstact: Sheep farming is highly valued in the Northeast region. Sheep farming is of great
socioeconomic importance in Maranhão, and this crop still has a lot of room to grow,
especially with the help of technology to expand throughout the municipality and state.
Thus, defining production models that promote higher weight gain rates for offspring,
shorter calving intervals and service periods, represents a basic pillar for the
development and growth of sheep farming as a successful agribusiness (CUNHA et al.,
2005). Bioclimatic diagnosis involves the analysis of climate data, such as temperature
and air humidity, collected over several years. These data are compared with the thermal
comfort values recommended for a specific animal species, in addition to bioclimatic
indices such as the THI (Temperature and Humidity Index). This process allows us to
identify the months and periods of the year in which the animals are or are not in
comfortable conditions, according to the climatic variations in sheep farming. Thermal
comfort is one of the main management practices that must be adopted in livestock
farming to ensure high production and animal welfare
