Abstact: This study addresses school dropout in high school and its motivations, considering the relevance that the topic has generated for society. The objective was to understand the sociocultural factors that lead young people to drop out of high school in the city of Caxias, Maranhão. The research was conducted in two public schools through interviews with two members of the school administration, four students who had dropped out and returned, and two young people currently in a dropout situation. The investigation highlighted the impact of school dropout on the educational and social development of youth, reinforcing the importance of the issue. The results showed that, even with the existence of public policies encouraging students to continue their studies, dropout rates remain significant. It was found that the causes are not limited to lack of interest but involve diverse problems, ranging from health issues to the conflict between work and school, which has strongly affected low-income students.

Título: O jovem Törless (1906) de Robert Musil: a repressão social na narrativa como representação da realidade social
Abstact: This study has focused on analyzing the theme of social repression in Robert Musil's literary work The Confusions of Young Törless (1906) as a representation of social reality. The main objective is to analyze how the social repression addressed in the narrative represents social reality, using an approach based on the Sociology of Literature. To achieve this goal, we used a qualitative approach, a methodology based on a bibliographical survey and discourse analysis, based on the theories of authors such as Foucault, Goffman, Candido, Bauman, among others. The survey was strengthened by reading articles, books, academic studies, which correlate with the literary work, thus seeking to understand social repression and its representation in the book as an analysis of social reality. The results indicate that social repression is presented in different ways in the narrative, covering aspects such as repressed sexuality, control, violence, and fear in the relationships between the students. The boarding school is presented as a social microcosm, mainly of a totalitarian system in which individuality is repressed, but where cruelty is neglected. The analysis, “based on the Sociology of Literature”, reflects that literature, in representing these aspects, has a representative function of social reality. The literary work is considered to play an important role in understanding social repression. The work emphasizes the relevance of a sociological analysis of literature, as fictional narratives can bring to light aspects that are often overlooked.

Título: Uma análise sociológica sobre escritos de banheiros masculinos no Instituto Federal do Maranhão- IFMA, campus Codó-MA.
Abstact: This study sociologically analyzes parietal inscriptions (latrinalia) found in male restrooms, investigating them as manifestations of social tensions and dilemmas. The main objective is to understand how these graphic expressions, produced under the shield of anonymity, reveal the micropolitics, anxieties, and worldviews of Integrated High School students at the Federal Institute of Maranhão (IFMA) – Codó Campus. Methodologically, this research is characterized as a qualitative and exploratory study based on the ethnography of daily life. The empirical corpus was constituted of photographic records of restroom doors and stalls, whose contents were grouped into six analytical categories: informative, police/criminal, motivational/academic, religious, offensive/sexual/humoristic, and educational. The theoretical framework mobilizes Michel Foucault’s concept of microphysics of power, Roberto DaMatta’s notions of public and private space, alongside studies on gender differences and aggressiveness by Teixeira and Otta. The results demonstrate that the restroom acts as a polyphonic space and a true parallel "political microsystem" to the institution's formal instances. On one hand, it reveals itself as a gendered and hostile environment, serving as a stage for territorial disputes (such as mentions of criminal factions like the PCC) and discourses filled with male aggressiveness, sexism, and homophobia. On the other hand, it functions as a liminal refuge of acceptance, harboring confessions, motivational messages facing school pressure, and religious expressions. It concludes that latrinalia transcends the mere notion of vandalism, substantiating itself as a rich material record that exposes the "unsaid" of classrooms and the complexities of human relations in spaces of confinement.
